Project Description
Building and maintaining rail infrastructure to promote more sustainable modes of transport
From project design to delivery, Soletanche Bachy provides its customers with all its expertise in the construction of rail infrastructures (metros, stations, high-speed train lines, regional networks), and thus contributes to the development of ecomobility in the regions.
Metro, tramway, urban express train: Soletanche Bachy is involved in the development of urban ecomobility throughout the world.
For over 80 years, Soletanche Bachy teams have been carrying out special foundation work for urban transport projects such as metros.
Our works help to encourage the use of less carbon-intensive modes of transport and reduce car traffic, thus improving air quality in cities.
We offer our entire portfolio of geotechnical processes to build these infrastructures, which contribute to greener mobility in cities: underground stations, stations, tunnels, access shafts, interconnection structures and associated civil engineering… And thanks to our expertise, we are able to take charge of the entire rail project with our partners as general contractors.
We also master all the constraints associated with the location of this type of infrastructure, in highly complex urban environments: Restricted right-of-ways, work at limited heights, road traffic management, limitation of possible impacts on neighboring structures, noise pollution, possible high levels of co-activity on site, maintaining the activity of nearby structures, etc.
Soletanche Bachy has worked on mass transit systems all over the world, including Le Grand Paris, the Singapore, Hong Kong, Lisbon and Warsaw metros, and the CRL project in Auckland.
Our expertise in rail transport projects
As part of new construction, maintenance, repair or rehabilitation work, we also carry out geotechnical work on national and international railroad line projects.
We have contributed to major projects such as the TGV in France, and HS2, the new high-speed rail line linking London to the north of the UK and Scotland. It will serve more than 25 stations, and connect some 30 million people.
In terms of maintenance, we carry out the following geotechnical work:
- To secure very old tunnels (injection, shotcreting, etc.), or even to increase their gauge. Soletanche Bachy Fondations Spéciales is also equipped with work trains enabling it to access any railway site anywhere in France.
- To reinforce the foundations of existing railroads. For example, on the RER C project in Paris, we installed Jet Grouting columns under the invert to improve the mechanical characteristics of the soil, which had deteriorated (flooding, increase in traffic since 1900, etc.).
In France, our sister company SOTEM specializes in emergency response and maintenance work on the metro: regeneration, drilling and sealing injection.
