ForSHORE: Bachy Balineau Antilles Guyane is involved in the renovation of the port of Jarry, in Guadeloupe!

Bachy Balineau Antilles Guyane has been subcontracted to carry out the foundations for ten lighting masts on a platform, as part of the renovation of the port of Jarry in Guadeloupe. This project strengthens the expertise of the ForSHORE brand, which brings together the maritime and port expertise of Soletanche Bachy.

Project Context 

In Jarry, at the heart of Guadeloupe, the container terminal of the port is undergoing a complete overhaul to meet environmental challenges. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40%, CMA-CGM (the shipping company) aims to make this port a strategic hub in the regional logistics chain. To achieve this ambition, the work plans to adapt the terminal’s yard to switch from storing containers three high to five high, replacing diesel reach-stackers with electric eRTG gantry cranes founded on long beams. The electrical network will also be redesigned, and the lighting system modernized.

Description of the Work 

 

Bachy Balineau Antilles Guyane is subcontracted by SOGETRA (COLAS group) to implement the foundations for the 10 future 35-meter-high lighting masts on the platform. These masts will rest on piles made of steel tubes with a diameter of 1,220 mm and a thickness of 14 mm, assembled by fillet welds. The main challenge: carrying out this project in an active port. To minimize the impact on port operations, the work has been divided into three distinct phases, maximizing the available space on the terminal. The spacing of about 70 meters between all the masts adds additional complexity to the organization of the site and the rotation of the equipment. The implementation of the piles is done using two methods:

  1. vibratory driving
  2. Hydraulic hammer driving

Each pile anchorage is subject to validation by a rigorous analysis of the driving parameters by the work team, the internal design office, and the project management. The complexity of this project is heightened by a heterogeneous geotechnical context, with a succession of fill layers, sandy or clayey sediments, and a marl-limestone bedrock. This results in variable pile lengths, ranging from 17.70 meters for the shortest to 47.70 meters for the longest. Each pile is completed by the construction of a reinforced concrete cap, 1.80 meters high, incorporating waiting reinforcements for the future foundation block of the mast.
