Rodio SwissBoring: Construction of its first LEED-certified building in Panama
Rodio SwissBoring, general contractor for the project, is participating in the construction of the future regional office of the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean).
The worksite
Our subsidiary teams are mobilized to install:
- Secant piles: 220 primary and 220 secondary piles.
- Micropiles: 330 micropiles, each 8.5 metres long.
- Active Anchors = 124 units for a total of 2,240 linear meters.
Rodio SwissBoring will be involved in the civil engineering work, including the installation of 11,840 m² of basements spread over 4 levels of 2,960 m² each.
The project involves the construction of a 3,201 m² building with public spaces that are open and accessible to all. Its aim is to encourage social interaction through convivial zones. The building will comprise six floors of offices and four levels of underground parking.
Rodio Swissboring is currently in the final phase of the project, finalizing static load tests on the micropiles, using advanced technologies, such as transducers (displacement sensors) and vibrating wire sensor cells to ensure accurate data for validation of the original design.
LEED certification and sustainability
This innovative building, certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), is designed to save energy and water, while reducing waste. It also limits the use of unsustainable materials, thus actively contributing to the fight against climate change.
Thanks to the optimizations implemented on site, teams from our subsidiary Rodio Swiss Boring were able to reduce CO2 emissions. These include rigorous fuel management for both heavy and light machinery, and the use of certified recycled steel and low-carbon concrete.
To take this approach a step further, surplus concrete was reused to make New Jersey-type safety barriers. In addition, alkaline water was treated and recycled for tire washing, dust control and cleaning shared spaces.
These initiatives have had a concrete and positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions.
