Rodio Swissboring carries out reinforcement work on the CA04S road in El Salvador
El Salvador’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), has awarded Rodio Swissboring an ambitious project to improve the safety and stability of the CA04S road. This essential infrastructure links the districts of Santa Tecla, Zaragoza and La Libertad, as well as the road leading to Surf City, passing through areas vulnerable to landslides.
Innovative technical solutions
Faced with this challenge, the team implemented an effective solution: the construction of retaining walls using soil nailing, complemented by the application of shotcrete. This technique involves inserting steel rods into the soil to reinforce its stability, offering optimum protection against erosion and compression forces. Thanks to this approach, more than 16,000 m² of slopes were secured in a record time of 4.5 months.
A positive impact on the community and the environment
In addition to the technical benefits, the project represents an important step in improving El Salvador’s road infrastructure, contributing to the safety of motorists and pedestrians, and ensuring greater durability of roads affected by natural hazards. Slope protection also plays a key role in preserving the environment by preventing soil erosion and potential damage to the region’s biodiversity.
Safety at the heart of our priorities
Nearly 83,500 hours of work were logged during the project, with the support of more than 120 employees who worked in a coordinated fashion to meet the deadlines set. The work was carried out with a strong commitment to safety, thanks to the rigorous implementation of preventive measures and the 4,000 hours of training provided, which meant that the project ended with zero recorded accidents, with or without lost time.
This achievement is a testament to Rodio Swissboring’s operational excellence and ability to complete complex projects to tight deadlines, while guaranteeing the safety of everyone involved. Well done to everyone involved in this project.
