Roger Bullivant uses EXEGY® very low carbon concrete for CHD piles in Orbiston
Teams from Roger Bullivant Limited have implemented a sustainable alternative to CFA piles, using CHD piles with EXEGY® by Soltanche Bachy very low carbon concrete to create the foundations for the future Orbiston Community Centre in Scotland.
For client Morgan Sindall Construction, Roger Bullivant Limited is building the foundations for Orbiston’s future community center. The project aims to create a learning environment for students and educators, while providing the surrounding community with quality outdoor spaces and indoor facilities.
For this project, Roger Bullivant Limited has showcased its sustainable piling solutions, offering an alternative to traditional CFA piles. Thanks to the successful installation of 344 CHD piles, the team not only met but exceeded the project’s expectations, all while adhering to the established timeline.
The 344 600 mm diameter, 16 m deep CFA piles originally planned were replaced. Instead, a combination of 300/600 mm and 400/700 mm diameter CHD piles at a depth of 8 m were installed.
What’s more, by replacing up to 70% of the Portland cement (CEMI) in the original concrete mix with ground blast furnace slag (GGBS), the teams also used a product with a much lower level of incorporated CO2 than ordinary cement. The Concrete used for this project is EXEGY® certified very low carbon concrete.
Thanks to these innovative, environmentally-friendly solutions, this change reduced carbon emissions by 220 tons of CO2.
CHD piles offer a variety of solutions, meeting both construction needs and sustainability objectives. In addition to reducing on-site waste, CHD piles are virtually vibration- and noise-free, limiting nuisance to the environment and the surrounding community.
Roger Bullivant Limited’s use of CHD piles for this project represents a major step towards sustainable construction. Through innovative approaches and collaborative efforts, Roger Bullivant Limited and its partners are providing highly technical foundation solutions while promoting a more environmentally friendly future.
Congratulations to the team on this project!
