Soletanche Bachy Peru develops an eco-responsible brick solution to limit sludge waste

Last September, Soletanche Bachy Peru delivered an initial batch of 200 eco-responsible bricks to the Ayash community, which is part of the area of influence of the Antamina mining unit, one of Peru’s largest polymetallic mining companies, renowned for its copper production.

The idea for the eco-responsible bricks was born when Soletanche Bachy Peru took part in the 2022 Environmental Hackathon organised by VINCI Autoroutes (Lima Expresa). The team, made up of employees from all areas of Soletanche Bachy Peru, won one of the first places with its innovative solution: eco-responsible bricks. This solution, based on the principle of the circular economy, consists of manufacturing bricks from surplus sludge not used on site, thereby limiting waste.

After the design office checked that the eco-responsible bricks complied with standard E.070 (Peruvian regulations on masonry elements), Soletanche Bachy Peru decided to donate the bricks to the Ayash community, to help them improve the infrastructure of their parish.

This project is a fine example of the commitment of Soletanche Bachy Peru and its teams, who are mobilising both socially and environmentally through the development of innovative solutions.
