Soil Engineering conducts ground studies on a subsidence of the M80 highway in Scotland!

Soil Engineering has been commissioned to carry out ground studies to analyze a subsidence on the M80, the motorway linking Glasgow to Stirling in Scotland.

Soil Engineering specializes in soil investigation, stabilization, and analysis. Our subsidiary was hired by The Coal Authority and BEAR Scotland to investigate a subsidence at a junction on the M80, a site marked by old mines.

Identifying the cause of the subsidence

The project mobilizes teams from Soil Engineering for cable percussion, rotary drilling, as well as a lead geologist responsible for providing continuous information flow to the client. The aim is to conduct drilling away from the subsidence area to collect reference data, which will then be analyzed. This way, the teams can fully understand the characteristics of the problem, identify the cause, and propose a repair solution.

Safety: an essential aspect

Access to the drilling platforms in the affected area was secured thanks to another safety platform developed internally by Soil Engineering. Designed to support the drilling structure while covering the affected zone, the platform provides a flat working surface for the team, thus isolating the risks of further subsidence (often encountered on this type of site).

Soil Engineering is no stranger to such tasks, with a solid track record of conducting critical investigations for The Coal Authority. Soil Engineering has already provided crucial data for sites such as Saltcoats and Mitchell Street.

Congratulations to the Soil Engineering Geoservices teams for the successful completion of this project!
