This project, initiated by the town’s Protestant parish, has chosen our BU to carry out a new project in Turda: the construction of an underground sports hall with an above-ground sports field, in the courtyard of the “Josika Miklos” high school.

For this project, Soletanche Bachy Romania opted for the “semi-top-down” method, which enables the infrastructure to be developed continuously, without the need without the need of a struts retaining system.

Work began with the construction of the gymnasium walls (the enclosure) using 600 mm diameter piles. This was followed by the installation of the capping beam, which connects the prefabricated beams. An excavation down to -6.00 m was carried out, followed by the installation of the 21 m long prefabricated beams, over-concreted to form the ceiling. Excavation continued to -10.00 m to allow pouring of a 60 cm thick foundation slab.

This method optimized the project by eliminating the need for temporary struts, thus reducing the final cost, execution time and investment.

Soletanche Bachy Romania also optimized the site by replacing the diaphragm wall with spaced drilled piles, ideal for deep excavations in urban areas. This solution was chosen to prevent possible groundwater infiltration by using semi-permeable shotcrete.

In addition to reducing costs and lead times, these innovations have contributed to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. (Less concrete used).

Congratulations to the teams on this project, in line with Soletanche Bachy’s environmental roadmap.
