Micropiling works on the Pont de Pierre bridge in Bordeaux<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>Nearly 20 years after a project to reinforce the bridges first piers, Soletanche Bachy France (the consortium\u2019s lead contractor with Sixense<\/a> Monitoring) was awarded the micropile test framework contract by Bordeaux M\u00e9tropole and its engineer BG Ing\u00e9nierie.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>The purpose of this test (framework contract renewable once) is to prepare future for underpinning work<\/a> on piers P7 to P16 using micropiles, scheduled for 2024.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThis will involve conducting two types of tests:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n- Construction of two instrumented structural micropiles, via a central pier from the bridge deck, including 12 months\u2019 monitoring of the micropiles and the bridge.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Performance of a compression loading test conducted until failure on an instrumented micropile<\/a> on the right bank. These micropiles are due to be installed using the same techniques as the structure\u2019s future micropiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

To win this very technical project, given the sensitivity of the structure, the technical issues and the uninterrupted operation of the tram, the local branch called on the Group\u2019s experts to identify the most appropriate processes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThe particular suitability of the Hi\u2019drill<\/span>\u00ae drilling process to the project\u2019s technical constraints (high inertia\u00a0<\/span>micropiles 40m deep, passing successively through reinforced concrete, a void, masonry, wood, alluvium and rough marl), associated with the latest instrumentation technologies proposed by Sixense, ticked all the boxes contained in the specifications.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nFrom the start of August, teams from the France Sud agency were \u201con deck\u201d to install the structural micropiles, before moving to the right bank for the failure load test. The work is due to be completed by mid-October.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>
